A Lockheed C-130H aircraft, assigned to the Fuerza A‚rea de Chile Grupo de Aviaci¢n No. 10, was reported missing on a flight to Antarctica. The aircraft was en route to a Chilean Antarctic base to investigate a floating fuel supply line and equipment. Seventeen crew members and twenty-one passengers were on board. The flight departed Santiago at 10:21 and landed at Punta Arenas at 14:44. After refueling, the aircraft took off at 16:53. Waypoint HORNO was passed at 17:44, and the aircraft continued towards DRAKE. The last known position of the aircraft was registered at 18:13, eight minutes before it would have passed DRAKE. On December 11, debris and human remains were found at sea, indicating a fatal crash.
