Description
The magnetometer-equipped Y-12-1 was performing geophysical survey at very low altitude (<100 m) when its starboard engine flamed out. The aircraft crashed into farmland, killing all five people on board and a farmer. Post-accident examination of the starboard P & W PT6A-11 engine discovered lumps of rubber material of foreign origin in the fuel mixture system, which was the most possible cause of the engine's sudden loss of power.
