A US Marine perimeter guard unit was involved in a crash landing at Da Nang Air Base during heavy rain and strong winds. The plane belly-landed short of the runway, resulting in minor injuries to the pilot. Description

The Provider was approaching Da Nang (DAD) in heavy rain, high winds and darkness when it crashed short of the runway. A witness reported: “Me and 2 other US Marines were on perimeter guard duty at Da Nang Air base when this plane belly landed, crashing into our implacement. I was knocked several yards by the body of the plane. I sustained only minor injuries. The pilot told me they “ran out of fuel”.”
