Description

A VIARCO flight from Villavicencio (VVC) to Puerto Carre¤o-Cumaribo Airport (PCR) had to make a precautionary landing at Las Gaviotas Airport because of some technical problems. Another plane, HK-1212 was sent to Las Gaviotas to pick up the passengers. The DC-3 aircraft took off from runway 24. Upon leaving the ground the right engine failed and caught fire. The DC-3 crash-landed in trees and caught fire. CAUSAS: “Ruptura de una biela y posterior p‚rdida total de potencia e incendio en el motor derecho durante la rotaci¢n del avi¢n, lo cual redujo el rendimiento de la aeronave haciendo que el piloto perdiera el control de la misma, produci‚ndose la colisi¢n inmediata contra el terreno.” CAUSES: “Rupture of a crank and subsequent total loss of power and fire in the right engine during rotation of the plane, which reduced the performance of the aircraft, causing the pilot to lose control of the aircraft, resulting in the immediate collision with the ground.” (translated from Spanish)
