Incident Overview
Description
On Monday, December 3, 1945 the Douglas C-47B-5-DK registration 43-48602 c/n 14418/25863 belonging to the US Air Force USAF in the morning hours, had taken off from the airfield of Asuncion, Paraguay bound for Montevideo, Uruguay with five crew and nine passengers, the pilot was Lieutenant Orville Michaelson and among the passengers was the legal attach of the US Embassy in Asuncion Dr J. Cordes Delworth. While en route, the plane encountered a major storm and lost radio communications with the air traffic control tower. When the arrival time was reached without any news of the plane, a search alert was put in place both in the air and on the ground; the last radio contacts specified a change of route between the town of Montecaseros, Corrientes and Pelotas, Brazil. All searches were unsuccessful until Friday, December 7, when the plane was found crashed in the vicinity of the Iber lagoon by a patrol of the Highway Department. The plane had crashed in a field about 15 km southwest of Iber , province of Corrientes. All occupants were found dead.
