Description
A C-47 transport plane was chartered to fly cargo from Madang to Mendi, Papua New Guinea. On the approach hydraulics were lost and the plane returned to Madang. The plane was going to run off the end of the strip into Madang harbour, so the pilots pulled the pin on the rear wheel which caused the aircraft to veer to the left and into the mangroves. The C-47 was withdrawn from use at Madang. It was used for fire practices and scrapped in 1978.
