Component Affected: Aircraft airspeed indicator and control systems.Aircraft airspeed indicator and control systems.
Category: Accident

During a final downwind ADF approach, the aircraft experienced a progressive decrease in airspeed despite gear and flap retraction and climb power application. The METO was applied but failed to mitigate the airspeed decline, resulting in an impact 1/4 mile short of the runway with clean configuration and full engine power.During a final downwind ADF approach, the aircraft experienced a progressive decrease in airspeed despite gear and flap retraction and climb power application. Description
During the final stages of a downwind ADF approach under marginal weather conditions the indicated airspeed began to decay despite the retraction of gear and flap and application of climb power. The IAS continued to decrease and METO (maximum except take-off) was applied but to no avail. The aircraft impacted the ground 1/4 mile short of the runway in a clean configuration with the engines at full power.
Primary Cause
Loss of control due to airspeed decay during a critical phase of the approach.Loss of control due to airspeed decay during a critical phase of the approach.Share on:
