Description
The Douglas C-47 Skytrain was destroyed when it went down in Nanjing. All four crew and nine passengers died. One of the occupants killed was Lieutenant General Dai Li, head of China’s Military Intelligence Service, whose identity fueled many conspiracy theories about the cause of the crash. According to contemporary records and an eyewitness’ account, the C-47 clipped trees before slamming into a ridge. This description was consistent with a CFIT accident.
