A DHC-8-Q402 operated by Oriental Air Bridge experienced a hard landing and tail strike during landing at Fukue. Four crew members and 50 passengers were uninjured. The aircraft was grounded following the incident. Description

A DHC-8-Q402 operated by Oriental Air Bridge performing flight ORC/OC93 from Fukuoka to Fukue experienced a hard landing and a tail strike while landing at Fukue. There were no injuries among four crew and 50 passengers. The airplane was grounded. The scars on the aft fuselage measured about 2.1 m X about 0.6 m. The damage of the plane was assessed on the next day, and the occurrence was rated as an air accident. JTSB launched an investigation. PROBABLE CAUSES In this accident, the JTSB concludes that the probable cause of this accident was that the Aircraft was most likely in an excessive nose-up attitude and the lower side of its tail contacted the runway because the captain continued the nose-up operation until moments before the touchdown since the Aircraft did not stop descending due to the airspeed reduction caused by turbulence during the landing flare.
