On TWA flight TW358, a 23-year-old male boarded the plane without a ticket and brandished a gun, threatening a flight attendant. He then demanded to be flown to North Vietnam. The hijacker fired at a passenger, resulting in their death, and subsequently demanded to be flown to Vietnam. A U.S. Marshal, while observing the hijacking, climbed aboard through a cockpit window and fired at the hijacker, resulting in his death. Description
During the boarding process of TWA flight TW358 at Chicago-O’Hare Airport, a 23-year old male boarded the plane without a ticket. He brandished a gun and threatened a flight attendant. A passenger who tried to intervene was shot and killed by the hijacker. The hijacker then demanded to be flown to North Vietnam. The passengers were released and while the plane was being prepared for departure, a Deputy U.S. Marshal climbed aboard through one of the cockpit windows. About 30 minutes after departure he opened the cockpit door after observing the hijacking walking to the back of the plane. He fired at the hijacker who took cover behind a row of seats. After landing the hijacker was arrested.
