Shortly after takeoff, about 600 feet above the ground, the number 2 engine failed. The flight crew declared an emergency and requested to return to the JFK Airport. The first officer was the flying pilot. As the airplane slowed to about 80 knots on the runway, the captain took control of the airplane. Shortly thereafter, the right main landing gear failed. The airplane slid to a stop on the runway. The 3 flight crew members and 2 jumpseat riders exited the airplane and were not injured.
