Category: Accident
Aerolineas Argentinas flight 8524 experienced a significant incident during its scheduled flight from Buenos Aires to C¢rdoba and San Luis. The aircraft arrived at San Luis at 20:46, but the landing was heavy, leading to an aborted takeoff. During the takeoff roll, the aircraft’s tires lost pressure and thread, culminating in a tire burst on the right main gear. The aircraft then overran by 125 meters and subsequently caught fire. The incident was halted due to vibrations and a rightward bank, resulting in a total loss of the aircraft.Aerolineas Argentinas flight 8524 experienced a significant incident during its scheduled flight from Buenos Aires to C¢rdoba and San Luis. Description

Aerolineas Argentinas flight 8524 was a scheduled flight from Buenos Aires to C¢rdoba and San Luis. The flight arrived at San Luis at 20:46. The landing was heavy, so the copilot asked the mechanic to check the undercarriage before departure. A quick turnaround for the flight back to Buenos Aires was performed. The aircraft taxied onto the runway towards the beginning of runway 18. While turning 180 degrees to line up for takeoff, the aircraft tires left signs of rubber marks. During the takeoff roll the no. 3 tire lost pressure and the no. 4 tire lost some thread. The no. 4 tire, on the right main gear, burst, just before reaching the V1 speed. Takeoff was aborted when the aircraft began vibrating and banked to the right. The aircraft overran by 125 m and caught fire.

Primary Cause

The incident was likely caused by a combination of factors, including a premature tire failure and thread loss during the takeoff roll, exacerbated by a reduction in braking force on the landing gear, combined with a lack of proper wheel cooling and a failure to adequately assess and respond to the situation during the aborted takeoff and subsequent fire.
