Description

The aircraft operated on a paratroop flight to a drop zone near Etienville, Normandy from RAF Saltby. A forced landing was carried out on mud flats off Etienville after being struck by machine gun fire from the ground. The aircraft made three approaches to the drop zone but on the third approach both engines failed and the airplane started burning. All paratroopers except for one exited the airplane.
